Activity TWO: Ranking the Sins
Dante's version of Hell is based on the ranking of the following sins with the first level dedicated to the least severe and the ninth level reserved for the most severe. Please put the following sins in order of severity according to your OWN opinion. Please do not google Dante's order and copy it. I want your list of sins to reflect how you feel. Anger, avarice, fraud, gluttony, heresy, limbo, lust, violence, treachery Create a "garland" using the construction paper. On each paper, list a sin and draw an image that symbolizes it. You will "rank" the sins by stringing them in the order of least to most severe. |
Activity THREE: Anticipation Guide

Choose one of the creatures we have read about: Minos, Charon, or Satan. Draw an image of him/it based on textual evidence. Your drawing should be accurate, detailed, and either shaded or colored. Finally, write a one paragraph description of the creature using at least TWO vocabulary words. |
for Reporters...
Choose one of the following sinners (or pairs of sinners) who Dante placed in Hell: Paolo & Francesca, Pope Celestine V, Count Ugolino and Bishop Ruggieri, or Brutus and Cassius. Do some brief research to find out about who they were and what they did. Do not rely solely on Wikipedia. Find at least two sources. Finally, write an article that summarizes your research and explains why they belong in the circle of Hell Dante put them in. Your article should include at least TWO vocabulary words and one IMAGE of the person/people. |
for Musicians...
Choose one of the Cantos we read as a class: one, three, five, or thirty four. Rewrite it as a poem from Virgil's perspective. Your poem should have at least three stanzas with four lines each. This is a minimum; you can always do more. Give your poem an appropriate and creative title. Finally, be sure to include at least TWO vocabulary words in your poem. |
Re-creating Dante's Inferno Creating a stage version of the nine circles of hell is a huge undertaking. Please be prepared to work collaboratively. PowerU time will need to be utilized for you to meet with your group members from all classes. Please make sure that you understand the rubric and the canto assigned to your group THOROUGHLY. |
