I have been teaching English for seventeen and a half years, most of those in North Carolina. My husband Matthew, who is also an English teacher, teaches at Salisbury High School. We moved here from Indiana in 2001 after graduating from Ball State University. For the first six years I taught English Language Arts at SEMS. I also coached cheerleading. I came to West in 2007. Since being here, I have taught English I, Yearbook, English II, and AP English Literature and Composition. Matt and I have two children: Anna, almost thirteen years old, and Dylan, who is ten. They attend Cleveland Elementary School. Anna is my serious, sweet, people pleaser; Dylan is my outgoing, goofy, charmer. They both love art, reading (shocking, with two English teacher parents!), and playing soccer. They are pretty awesome kids, but I might be just a little biased.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, playing with my kids, swimming, and wasting time on Pinterest and Huff Post. I consider myself to be very open-minded and creative, but I am definitely a procrastinator! I also really like to be in charge, which is probably half of the reason I became a teacher.
I am so excited to be teaching all English II this year. I cannot wait to explore the novels, cultures, and people/characters of World Literature with you. Together we will find new and effective ways to use technology to engage with the literature and informational texts in preparation for the EOC.
